The Combined Services and Gloucester RFC have announced the CS v Samoa rugby match at Kingsholm, Gloucester on Wed 17 Nov 10, (KO 1945). CS has not played an international fixture for over 15 years and so this promises to be a very special event  - Samoa will face England at Twickenham just 3 days later! All profits will go to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2010. Tickets are available from the Gloucester RFC ticket line. England ground out a 7-5 win over world champions Samoa to reach the semi-finals of the rugby sevens tournament in Delhi on Tuesday. England trailed to Alatasi Tupou's early try but responded by taking the lead before the interval when Royal Navy flanker Greg Barden finished off a penalty move and skipper Ben Gollings converted. England , silver medallists four years ago, controlled the second half to book a semi final date with three-time gold medallists New Zealand at 1430 local time (1000BST). Navy Back-Row forward, Cpl Greg Barden (RM Poole), playing at Hooker, contributed fully as England started their campaign to win Commonwealth Gold in the Rugby Sevens in Delhi, India.  As the pool stages got underway, England faced Sri Lanka and Uganda with a final pool game against Australia. Ben Ryan, England's Head Coach, rotated his squad and Greg played a part in all 3 matches; this included coming on as a replacement to score the final try in the 55 - 0 win over Uganda.  Earlier England had eased to a comfortable 59 - 7 win against the Sri Lankans.  On this occasion it was the Army's Isoa DamuDamu, who ensured that Service rugby appeared on the score sheet. US Portsmouth will provide the opposition for Portsmouth Command trials on Tuesday 12 October 2010 at Burnaby Road, kick off at 1930.   Potential Portsmouth Command players who play for United Services will remain in the US side to face the Command side, which should give both sides a good opportunity to look at as many players as possible.   US views this as a great honour to be asked to play the match but also a good opportunity for the first XV - who are sitting 3rd in Hampshire 1 - to keep the on-field momentum going in a very competitive and tough practise match.   Numbers attending Tuesday and Thursday night training at US are increasing every week,...

Since losing in the semi-final of the Navy Cup last year, HMS Liverpool has been unbeaten on the recent deployment to America during Op Auriga. The last year has seen the squad strengthen throughout and with crushing scores over HMS Daring and MWS Collingwood since returning to the UK; the ‘Red Rooster' is now a team taken seriously as challengers for the Navy Cup.   The draw in the first round was HMS Sultan, a mighty team which has been regular finalists in the competition.
