The Senior XV started their Inter Services campaign with a gritty display against a young Exeter Braves side.   Their week began at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM) joined by Rob Baxter, Stu Townsend and Sam Simmonds from Exeter Chiefs for an insightful QnA session. On completion, the lads enjoyed a session on the Royal Marines Assault Course and a Mud Run the following day. In the first round of the Navy Cup, the newest Royal Navy Rugby Union club, HMS Prince of Wales, was drawn against the current Navy Cup champions, HM Naval Base Clyde.  Being only the second match the new ship's team have ever played, the players knew they were in for a challenging time. The bonus for the Prince of Wales (PWLS) team was the opportunity to play in front of a home crowd, this was a huge boost to many of the squad who up until last month had only ever played at a grassroots level or not at all!  The stage was set on top of a very windy hillside with the PWLS trying to write a true underdog story by knocking out the current holders in the first round.   ...

It was a tough match for the Royal Navy Rugby Union President’s XV when they hosted a Hampshire RFU Academy side at Burnaby Road.  The score line wasn’t really a reflection of the quality of the match, but the President’s players will definitely have learnt a few lessons from the encounter. The Hampshire side were determined to stamp their authority on the match and were quick to attack.  A lovely little chip kick made it through the Royal Navy President’s defensive line and the Hampshire left wing followed it to score the first try, Navy 0 – Hampshire 5. Development team continues to grow

The Royal Navy Rugby Union Women’s Development team travelled to Havant RFC for their final fixture of the season.  Initially the game went the way of the home side, but as the final whistle blew the Royal Navy side could celebrate a 12 – 24 victory. The RNRU Women’s Team Management were very grateful to Havant RFC Ladies who stepped in to fill a last minute gap in the fixtures calendar.  So the Women’s Development team season could finish as it started with a game against the Havant Ladies.  This time Havant Ladies had the home advantage.
