The Royal Navy Senior XV travelled to Championship team Esher on Wednesday night to play their 3 rd game of the season, a season that so far had seen them beat both Varsity Universities Oxford and Cambridge. The game would give coaches CPO (Ash) Coates, PO (Owen) Salmon and CPOPT (Clayton) Patilla and DoR Lt Cdr (Andy) Kellett RN a chance to look at some players who had not featured in the previous games and also to consider players who had only recently joined the squad.
However, Esher although bottom of the Championship League and facing play-offs to remain in the league were on a roll having won their last 3 games.
From the kick-off Esher made it clear that they were goin...
The Navy continues their preparations for 2012 Inter Services with a fixture against Esher. The last few seasons have seen the Navy come off second best during hard physical encounters with the London Club.
Last season the Navy Senior XV lost by 20 points (34-14) to an Esher team who were in the hunt for promotion. However, fortune has not smiled on the London Club this season as they have found difficulty in securing wins in The Championship League.
However, as 2011 rolled into 2012, Esher's fortunes have improved as with home field advantage, they beat fellow strugglers Plymouth Albion 41- 17. This was to cap the team's 3 rd win on the trot and sits as a remind...

There was a familiar face to Navy Rugby people this weekend on the sidelines at Twickenham when England took on Wales in the RBS 6 Nations Championship. Navy Referees Society Paul Burton, who is on the RFU's Elite Assistant Referees Panel, was selected to be the fifth official at the game on Saturday and will be his first taste of international rugby officiating.
53-year-old Devonian Paul, who now lives in Swindon but moved there recently from his home in Fareham with his wife Rachel, took over as Chairman of the Hampshire Society earlier this year from Simon Thomas but has been making considerable strides within the RFU Referees Panel over the last ten years.
