Royal Navy referees were on duty at Newbury officiating at the RAF v Army Inter Services on Wednesday 21 st April. This year they were tasked with taking charge of the Women's and Veterans' matches. Unfortunately, the annual clash between the RAF and Army Senior XVs was cancelled as the Army squad was stuck in South Africa as a result of the flight disruptions caused by the volcanic eruption in Iceland.

Marine Mark Owen (42 Commando Royal Marines) who made his debut against the RAF in this year's Inter Services, has been withdrawn from the Senior XV squad to face the Army. Marine Owen failed a fitness test today on his ankle that he injured in the match against the RAF. His place will be taken by Sub Lieutenant Tom Blackburn RN, who has been drafted in to provide more front row cover to the match squad.

The Royal Navy made the journey to Plymouth on Monday evening to play Plymouth Albion Warriors as the final game of the Inter Services 2010 preparations. Following the impressive result against the RAF, and conscious of the need to rest some players and allow others to recover from minor injuries, the team saw a number of changes. As the game unfolded, it became clear that the coaching staff would indeed have to make difficult decisions before selecting the squad to play the Army on 1 st May.
