The Royal Navy make a number of changes for Wednesday’s game against a South West Select XV; as the whole squad looks to get the team in the right shape and frame of mind for the season defining game against the Army at Twickenham on 9th May. Only four of the players who started against the RAF are retained although two other starters are bench. With last season’s game played at a breath-taking tempo for the full eighty minutes the match should prove the perfect run out to put the RAF draw behind them and ensure that the traditional lightening starts of the Army Navy game do not catch them unawares.

The Royal Navy Mariners are clearly not an early morning team. A sluggish start to the game, which kicked off at 10:30, allowed the Vultures to exert some pressure but as the sun rose in the sky and the muscles warmed through so the Mariners game lifted. By then end of the match they were well in control and playing their best rugby of the season as they ran in five tries for a 39-15 victory in the opening round of the 2015 Inter Service Championship.

The RAF Women gave what was probably their best ever Inter Service performance to win this opening round match in the 2015 Inter Services tournament. They will travel to Aldershot with a side that are able to pose the dominant Army Women some questions. For the Royal Navy Women it was a hard day at the office but it remains to their credit that having been forced to defend heroically for nearly all the game they still had the strength of character to keep challenging the RAF, which was rewarded with a coupe of late tries.
