Commander Arty Shaw becomes Senior XV ADOR
Navy Rugby are delighted to announce the appointment of Commander Arty Shaw RN as the Senior XV Assistant Director of Rugby.
“After an extremely enjoyable playing career at every level in the RN, Commander Michael ‘Arty’ Shaw finally retired when persistently living a yard offside in the back row became a yellow card offence. He then transitioned into administrative side of the game, becoming part the Training Support Groups for the RN Mariners and RN Presidents XV. A very proud RN Air Engineer, after a brief sabbatical, Arty now finds himself as the Head of Facilities Management at Northwood Headquarters making sure the President has a hot cup of tea in the mornings.
As the current Event Coordinator of UKAF Rugby, Arty has just returned from leading the UK Armed Forces Tour to Japan, competing in the International Defence Rugby Competition 19. The squad, containing 11 RN players, performed superbly but were unfortunate beaten in the final by a very strong Fiji side.
Arty said “It’s a real honour to be appointed as the Assistant Director of RN Rugby and alongside Admiral Key, Captain Kellet and Cdr Roberts I hope to continue to develop the outstanding rugby talent we have within the Naval Service”
“We are delighted that Arty has joined our fantastic team going into this season. He brings an abundance of enthusiasm and experience that will only benefit the squad.” Said Andy Kellet, Navy Rugby Chairman.
