Congratulations to RNRU(W) Player Charlotte Fredrickson
The RNRU wish to congratulate Lt Charlotte Fredrickson RN (currently based in PJHQ, Northwood) on her selection in the United Kingdom Armed Forces Rugby Union Women’s rugby side in their annual match against Cardiff Blues Women on 7 November 2015 at Cardiff Arms Park.
Three other RNRU(W) players, Lt Helen Stevenson (HMS BULWARK), OC Olivia Critchley (DTUS Trojan Sqn) and OC Charlotte Myrans (WALES URNU), were also selected for the initial 29 person squad, but operational commitments and a high level of competition for a place in the final squad for Saturday’s game sees Charlotte shouldering the full RN representative role in the match alone.
RNRU(W) ADoR LtCdr Lynne Martin was thrilled at the announcement:
“I am genuinely proud of all the ladies that were selected from the RNRU(W) team and especially to have Charlotte making final selection. Women’s Rugby continues to grow in popularity, and with that competition to make the team has never been greater. On behalf of the entire RNRU(W) Team I’d like to say a formal well done to Charlotte, enjoy the match and we are looking forward to seeing you back playing in dark blue in January”.
In response to a question about the future of Women’s Rugby Union in the Royal Navy, Lynne commented:
“We have seen a recent increase in ladies approaching us to try rugby which I can only attribute to the amazingly entertaining rugby that was witnessed at the Rugby World Cup which is still fresh in our minds. As a result we are increasing our commitment to grass roots level coaching so that we can offer rugby to complete novices. Rugby is a fantastically sociable sport and a really fun way to keep fit and I urge anyone who wants to give it a go to contact the RNRU Office who will pass details on.”
The next Women’s Grass Roots tag rugby sessions are being held at HMS COLLINGWOOD on 11 November and HMS SULTAN on 18 November. So if you want to see what rugby is all about, fancy having a go or simply want to vary your fitness routine contact the RNRU Office on 08448794941 or email info@navyrugbyunion.co.uk.
