Dates for your Diary - UK Armed Forces Announce Forthcoming Fixtures
As part of their 2016/2017 fixture list UKAF rugby have announced the dates of their forthcoming Remembrance matches in support of the Royal British Legion. On 11 November the UKAF Women will travel to Cardiff Arms Park to take on Wales Rugby Union Women's team. On 21 November the UKAF Senior XV will return to Bath RFC and square up to Bath United.
Lieutenant Charlotte Fredrickson and Leading Writer Lauren Morton have both been named in an extended provisional squad of 36 and will be hoping to make the final cut of 23 players who will travel to Cardiff in the Autumn. The men's squad has yet to be announced but there will be a number of RNRU players who will be vying for selection, amongst them Mat Tichias, Edd Pascoe, Gareth Rees, Jarrard Hayler, David Fairbrother, Kyle Mason and Silivenusi Buinimasi, who all played during the UKAF encounter against Saracens in May.
But the best may be yet to come and UKAF Rugby fans could be in for a special treat in the future. This is because in order to support the RFU's centenary commemorations to mark the end of World War One, UKAF have proposed playing their annual match at Twickenham as a supporting fixture to the England v New Zealand international match in November 2018. The proposal is being considered by the RFU's Great War Working Group and has plenty of support. As of yet, no opposition team has been decided although it is hoped a match could be arranged against ANZAC or Barbarian FC. As soon as more details are known we will be sure to let you know so watch this space for further information.
