Weds 12 Sep: - The Rectory saw HMNB Devonport preparing for the 1st Round of the Navy Cup by taking on local Combination side Devonport High School Old Boy's. The Naval base ending the evening with a 29 - 17 win.
On Saturday the Devonport 1st Team travelled to Bideford who presently sit second from the top of the Western Counties West League.
Sadly they lost 33 - 18, Bideford's win was not quite emphatic as it looked. Services had as many chances as Bideford but failed to convert them in to points.
3 pts from a Matt Anstis penalty then going to 7 - 10 ahead thanks to a Jai Geraty try, Anstis converted. However, by half time Bideford had sneaked in to the lead by 14 - 13, Anstis collecting another penalty.
The second half went the way of the home team with 3 tries and 2 conversions.
Services flanker Dylan Cossey rounded off the scoring to take the result to 33 - 18.
New coach Bryan Crichton, a former Services Captain and recently a Brixham player, was disappointed by the result, but was satisfied with the way the training and playing was going.
Devonport Services II took on Newton Abbott II in the Devon Merit Table 1. Despite Newton's 1st team being 2 leagues above Services 1st team they ended with a thumping 63 - 17 win, a fantastic start with 3 tries inside 18 minutes to set the tone for the game.
By half time the score stood at 20 - 10, Newton scored once more but after that Services pulled smoothly away.
Top scorer was Mne Mo Andrews, with three tries, is a Services regular who is on leave from 43 Cdo, Faslane.
