Devonport Services Weekend Round Up
Fortunes were reversed this weekend as the Devonport Services 2nd travelled to Paignton for a Devon 2nd Team Merit Table game and suffered a 27-3 loss, Mark Symes collecting the team's only points.
The firsts took on Bude who are rooted to the bottom of the table 3 places below Services. By the end of the afternoon the score-board looked a healthy 43-3.
The first half sealed the win and the second should have taken the score through 60 points but injuries and the new system of interchanges to both sides created a disjoined half.
Ben McGowan scored the first after only 2 minutes, further tries came from Jason Stead and Panu Ratu, conversions by Matt Anstis. After 20 minutes Services were 19-0 up. By half time a Matt Morrison try and an Anstis conversion took the score to 26-3.
The disjoined 2nd half held the score board down and Bude seldom troubled Services try line. Tries by Harry Elliott and Manoa Tikiosuva and conversions by Anstis ended the afternoon on 43 -3.
The win lifts Services to 7th place in the league table, whilst the 2nd drop a place to second in the Devon Merit Table 1.
Coach Bryan Crichton was pleased with the afternoons work saying "There is room for improvement, but it was a good team effort".
The club also said farewell to centre Harry Elliott who is off to university.
Next Saturday sees a tough away trip to Torquay for the 1st and Torquay at home for the 2nd. While the Colts take on Torquay Colts in the National Colts Cup.
