Devonport Services Weekend Round-Up
In terms of wins and losses not the best of weekends to be fair as all the teams lost out to Torquay.
The Devonport Service 1st's were away in Torquay and ended up losing 33-26. Actually, it was a very close game that Services could so nearly have won.
Inside 10 mins the score stood at 3-10 to Services following a penalty from Matt Anstis and a try from flanker Dyan Cossey which was converted by Anstis. Torquay then scored a converted try to level the score and then pulled ahead with another try and a penalty, 20-10.
After the second half restart, Anstis was successful with a penalty kick, only for Torquay to add an unconverted try. This Services countered with a third Anstis penalty, 25-16. Both sides then traded penalties, 28-19.
Just when Torquay looked to be going to pull away Services Rob Ede ‘zipped' in on the wing and with the Anstis conversion there were only two points in it at 28-26 as the clock ticked towards full time.
Deep into injury time Services lost concentration and allowed the Torquay winger to slip the defence and score the final points. (FT 33-26)
Devonport 2nd's lost to Torquay at home by 12-34.
Services Elliott Worrell scored the first try inside 2 mins, Unfortunately Torquay had a huge set of forwards who were difficult to stop once they got going and using this tactic scored 3 tries.
The Torquay fly half fed off the forward drive's for the line with another try and in the last 10 mins Services started to compete and had the last word with a good drive down the middle by LMEM (Rab) Seru (HMS Ocean) that set up Zac Callicott for a try wide out. Dave Hall converted. (FT 12-34)
The Colts lost 5-39 to Torquay in the Colts National Cup.
Following this result they now go forward into the Plate competition which has seen them make an appearance in 2 finals winning it once.
