Excellent Handover for new RNRU Chair
The Royal Navy Rugby Union is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Chair. Rear Admiral Steve Moorhouse OBE took over the reins from Commodore Roger Readwin at HMS Excellent on Wednesday 6 July 2022.
Steve has played rugby throughout his career, starting as an Officer Cadet at BRNC Dartmouth representing the College and then on to representing the Royal Navy in the Under 21 side. He represented the Senior Mens XV in some of the pre-IS matches and played for a number of years for Penryn while serving at Culdrose. Prior to joining the Royal Navy, he had the honour of playing and winning in the very first Daily Mail Schools Cup Final at Twickenham and was Club Captain at Birmingham University.
Steve is taking over the position of Chair in exciting times after the uncertainty encountered by his predecessor during the COVID-19 pandemic, for which he was full of praise ‘Roger has done a fantastic job of steering the RNRU through some turbulent waters and has left it in a very strong position for me to build upon, for which I am extremely grateful. I last took a rugby pass from Roger on the rugby field at BRNC so it as a real privilege to take another pass from him and continue the post-Covid recovery and ensure the Royal Navy Rugby Union is set for success, both on and off the field of play, over the seasons to come.’
Steve is looking forward to engaging with all those involved in delivering, and playing rugby within the Royal Navy, and also those line managers and Commanding Officers who ensure that time is made available for their people to participate in rugby, whether it be grassroots, community or in the representative area.
