Honours Even Future Bright
By LPTI Helen McClement Wednesday 30 Nov saw HMS Excellent Rugby Team take to the pitch for the first time in four years in a friendly match against HMS Gloucester 2nds. A converted try by Gloucester after 10 minutes rocked Excellent back but they soon shook off their cobwebs, and the second quarter saw the Excellent forwards step up to score their first try of the game. The second half started with the loss of Excellent Skipper Capt Roly Brading RM through injury, however this did not deter the team and as Dvr Craig Tower stepped into the scrum half position, the experience of the backs shone through and allowed Capt Tim Tottenham RM to score another two tries, one of which Dvr Tower converted. Gloucester proved to be tough opposition and with their well rehearsed moves, scored another 3 tries one of which was converted. The final minutes, saw the score at Gloucester 22 Excellent 17, when the ball was passed out to Full Back Cpl 'Mags' Margaret (Man of the Match) who fought through their back line to make the final score 22-22. A welcome return to Navy Rugby by HMS Excellent, who are now looking forward to the future….The only way is up!
