Lancaster Ensures Rivalry Continues in Dubai
For the last three years the Navy Sharks have met the Pyrenees 7's in the International Overseas Section of the Dubai Sevens. On each occasion the winer of the game also went on to win the tournament, the Sharks in 2005 and again in 2007. This year the Sharks are not entered due to their recent trip to the SANDF VIIs but HMS Lancaster's rugby team are ensuring that the rivalry (at least on the pitch) continues as they battle in what is a very tough competition. The first game for HMS Lancaster was against the full RAF VII and unfortunately the team went down 47 - 0 (the U23s will be looking to redress the balance this evening at Burnaby Rd - ed.) The second match was against the powerful side from the South West of France and again the opposition proved too strong for the Lancaster team who though they worked hard for each other lost heavily. However with Thursday night to regroup the Lancaster VII have come out with reniewed vigour and have won their last pool match, 21 - 10, against Vauxhall Motors. This proved to be the surprise result in the group as late on Thursday night the Vauxhall Motors team and downed the Air Force's colours 26 - 21. HMS Lancaster now proceed through to the Quarter Final of the plate competition. All at Navy Rugby wish HMS Lancaster the very best in the knockout stages.
