Navy Wing Named In Championship ‘Team of the Season’
After a stellar season for London Welsh which included the scoring of 16 tries in 22 appearances, Navy Wing Logs (CS) (Josh) Drauniniu (HMNB Portsmouth) has been selected in the Championship ‘Team of the Season'. The XV is made up from votes cast from each of the 12 Championship clubs, with the player getting the highest number of votes in their respective position being included in the ‘All Star' team.
Josh helped London Welsh to finish forth in the Championship League which gave the London club a chance of a place in the Premiership through the play-offs. An unfortunate training accident prevented Josh from featuring in the semi-final loss to the eventual runners-up Cornish Pirates. This injury also kept him out of the 2011 Inter Service Championship decider against the Army at Twickenham in May.
Josh was included in the ‘Team of the Season' because of his elusive running style which during the season saw him make inroads into Championship sides defence's before setting up scoring opportunities for London Welsh. He also finished joint top scorer alongside his new team mates Miles Benjamin and Marcel Garvey of Worcester Warriors.
Talking of joining his new club Josh stated ‘I'm really excited about moving to Worcester and getting the opportunity to play Premiership rugby again. Pre season starts on the 20 Jun and I am raring to go. He went on to say about the Army v Navy game ‘I was disappointed to be injured and miss out on the Army Navy game this year and will be looking to contribute as much as I can to Navy rugby next season'.
All in Navy Rugby would like to congratulate Josh for this accolade and wish him well for the forthcoming season.
