Penryn Runners Up & Navy 7's Champions - Next stop Manchester
PENRYN 7’S RNAS Culdrose entered two teams into this annual tournament held at Penryn RFC. The teams are known as the Seahawk Islanders and the Flying Hawks. The players began the day in high spirits setting up camp next to the pitch preparing them for the day ahead. The players WAGS helped with the BBQ and providing a friendly atmosphere. A total of 16 teams entered the competition and the guys new it would be tough day. The Seahawk Islanders started off well and went to win their pool conceding only 1 try and scoring nearly 30 tries. The Flying Hawks had tough competition and lost narrowly to a couple of teams to finish 3rd in their pool. In the Semi Final the Seahawk Islanders played a touring side and won comfortably by 30 points. In the other semi final were the Celtic Barbarians predominately made up from the Truro College guys that won the Daily Mail Cup. They beat their opponents quite comfortably. The crowd and the players were now looking forward to watching a superb final. The final started with a bang with both sides exchanging tries at either end. Half time arrived and the Islanders were 1 try behind. After a half time team talk by LPT Caruana the guys started strongly scoring 3 tries. But this is why 7’s is so good; the Celtic Barbarians came back to just 1 score with a minute left. The atmosphere was tense and the guys were getting tired. In the final seconds the Celtic barbarians scored under the posts. Everyone was gutted and the Celts beat the Islanders 36 – 32. Overall both Culdrose teams played with such finesse and won over the crowds with their exciting rugby. Stars for Culdrose were NA Volasaya, NA Ifereimi and NA Tulakepa who scored countless tries. Next for the Seahawk Islanders and the Flying Hawks is the Manchester 7’s in July
