Recovery and Team Selection For the Royal New Zealand Navy Fixture
Mark Deller sat with his coaches and selected the squad for the second fixture in the Commonwealth Cup against the Royal New Zealand Navy at the top of Table Mountain on a glorious afternoon in the African sunshine. An injury to Hodgy HODGKINSON opened the way for Tom Glover to start with the only other change to the side that took the field against the Royal Australian Navy to be Greg BARDEN on the wing for SA Bee BUINIMASI. The spectacular views didn't provide enough excitement for Marsh Cormac and Hodgy as they took the opportunity to abseil 120 meters down the side of the Mountain. Both returned safely but Dave JONES couldn't look as he really doesn't like heights one bit. In the final training session on the eve of the New Zealand game it was obvious that the focus had fully returned to the matter at hand as Dave SIBSON and Nick BARTLETT put the boys through their paces under the direction of Mark Deller. The Cornish Quartet of PASCOE, GLOVER, DONEY and CARUANA were interviewed by BBC Radio Cornwall at the end of the session and all of the players were buzzing with cautious optimism and making it clear that the welcome we had received in South Africa was as warm as you could hope for. All that awaited the whole team was a dip in the chilly Atlantic Ocean (no ice baths needed here) and a carbo overload for their evening meal. Round two was to commence the next day and the boys were all set to face the New Zealand team and the Haka!
