RFU President embarks on 150 mile charity walk
On Friday, RFU President and RNRU Life Member, HH Jeff Blackett and his wife Sally will be starting a 150 mile walk over a 15 day nationwide tour that will see them visit 18 of the RFU’s Constituent Bodies. This year, the RFU celebrates its 150th Anniversary and Jeff wanted to mark the occasion by embarking on this challenge to visit as many clubs and CBs as possible so that he could raise awareness of the anniversary, thank volunteers for keeping the game going during the pandemic and to raise important funds for the Injured Players Foundation. The Injured Players Foundation is the RFU’s primary charity and provides support to any rugby player who sustains a spinal cord or brain injury while training or playing the game as well as funding vital injury prevention research to keep everyone safer on the field. An ambitious fundraising target has been set but it hoped that the Rugby Community will get behind Jeff and Sally and support them in their endeavour.
The route starts at United Services Portsmouth, Jeff’s own rugby club and finishes on 5th November at Twickenham Stadium. Members of the RNRU Executive Committee will be supporting Jeff on the first leg of his walk. Anyone wishing to support Jeff and Sally should visit their fundraising page: IPF Fundraising Page where donations can be made and details of the overall programme can be found. The RNRU sends its best wishes and support to Jeff and Sally as they undertake this challenge!
