RNRU Navy Cup Semi Final Update
The sides are now known for the last four stage of the 2014-15 RNRU Navy Cup competition following the unfortunate withdraw of last years winners, Commando Logistics Regiment RM who were unable to raise a side for their delayed quarter final clash with 42 Commando RM on Weds 5th November.
In the first semi final the young guns from BRNC, fresh from victories over HMS Triumph 39-13 in the first round and an emphatic victory over CTC RM 40-7 in the quarter final will hope to keep to their free flowing game when they come up against 42 Commando RM. As the only RM side remaining, 42 Commando will be keen to make a strong showing in this their 350th birthday year and emulate their previous RNRU Cup victory in the 2009-10 season.
The semi final draw now features HMS Seahawk against HMS Sultan, both sides having had walkovers in the first round followed by comprehensive victories against HMNB Portsmouth 47-0 and Collingwood 26-0 respectively in their quarter final games. This should be a mouth watering clash between two strong sides, the airmen winners in 2011-12 and 2012-13 against the engineers who last tasted victory in 2008-09, especially if the weather holds off and with a firm pitch.
Both semi final fixtures are scheduled to take place on Wednesday 12th November with a 1330 KO at HMS Seahawk, Culdrose and a 1430 KO at Bickleigh Camp, Plymouth.
The RNRU Plate competition is now at the finals stage with HMS Heron taking on HMNB Devonport. Both sides have had an uneventful journey through the semi finals by walkovers due to their opponents deployed on operations, an accepted aspect of our military service when faced with numerous worldwide challenges.
The finals day on Wednesday 26th November 2014 will commence at 1415 for the Plate Final between HMNB Devonport Vs HMS Heron on the HMS Drake Wardroom pitch followed by the RNRU Cup Final at 1900 at The Rectory, home of Devonport Services RFC, Plymouth. This will be an excellent start to a busy week for RNRU with the RN Sports Award scheduled for Friday 28th November at HMS Nelson.
