RNRU Regional Roadshows search for new talent
As the 2018/19 rugby season kicks off the Royal Navy Rugby Union announce a series of regional roadshows coming to an area near you soon. The aim of the regional roadshow is to identify new talent and to ensure that all existing RNRU players are tested for their strength and conditioning at the start of the season.
The Senior XV Training Support Group will travel around the country visiting Plymouth, Yeovilton, Portsmouth and Scotland. Assistant Director of Rugby, Major Scott Ashley, will be assisted by Head Coach, Chief Petty Officer Dave Pascoe, Warrant Officer Fraz Pearson and two Strength and Conditioning Physical Training Instructors, LPT Luke Warrington and LPT Ben Priddey. Between them these gentlemen have years of rugby experience and will be looking out for established players and those new to Royal Navy Rugby Union.
The day will begin at 0900 with an introductory brief about the aim and organisation of the Royal Navy Rugby Union before the strength and conditioning testing begins at 1000. Individual skills testing will take place at 1130 before lunch. Then re-starting at 1400, the majority of the afternoon will be taken up with a game and skill zone session followed by a 60-minute session on the rugby pitch.
All players who are keen to represent the Royal Navy Rugby Union at the representative level are strongly encouraged to attend. This includes Under 23s, Women, Senior XV, Mariners (our Veterans side) and the Sharks (our 7s team). The event is open to all Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel whether regular or reservist.
If you would like more information about the events please contact scott.ashley891@mod.gov.uk or fraser.pearson599@mod.gov.uk
Otherwise just turn up on the day in clean rugby kit, with footwear suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. This will count as a duty commitment so please engage with your line manager if you wish to attend. Looking forward to seeing you there.
