Welcome to Burnaby Road home of the United Services Portsmouth Rugby Football Club and the venue for Royal Navy rugby matches in Portsmouth. Tonight sees the inaugural 2009/10 fixture for the Royal Navy squad and a particular warm welcome for helping us start off our season to our opponents today Oxford University, their management, coaches, staff and supporters.
Although this will be the first representative match for many of these young players, I am sure that we will see a celebration of all that is good in our sport - skill, fitness determination and team spirit and a stepping stone for higher representative rugby.
On behalf of everyone here tonight I would also like to thank Commodore R Thompson Royal Navy, the Naval Base Commander Portsmouth, for allowing us to stage this fixture and to his staff for their organisation behind the scenes that is required for events such as these to take place.
Our next Senior XV fixture will be against the Irish Defence Force here at 1800 on Friday 26 February.
