Royal Navy women announce new Team Captain
At the RN Women's End of Season Dinner, held on 11 Jun 11 at the Maritime Club, Portsmouth, it was announced that Lt (Victoria) Percival RN (DE&S Abbeywood) had decided to stand down as Team Captain after 3 years in the role. Her replacement was revealed as Lt (Charlotte) Fredrickson RN (849 NAS). Charlie has been a member of the RN WRU since she joined the Royal Navy in 2004, playing predominantly on the flank. Throughout her time in the squad, she has shown herself to be a strong leader both on and off the pitch. Charlie has represented the Combined Services as well as the South West of England, proving her outstanding rugby ability. LAWT (Sophie) Hinds (HMS Montrose) will remain as Vice Captain.
Two awards were presented at the dinner. The ‘Players Player Trophy' was awarded to LLogs (Loz) Morton (CMC Portsmouth). This was a unanimous decision by the Squad and reflects the positive attitude and enthusiasm that Loz has shown throughout the season.
The Head Coach, Lt (Sam) Cuff RN (RNAS Yeovilton) had the difficult decision of selecting the ‘Most Improved Player of the Season'. There was stiff competition from a number of players. However, he decided that the award should be presented to NA (Caroline) Penrose (RNSFDO). Caroline joined the squad at the start of the season and worked hard to develop her rugby throughout. She plays in one of the more competitive positions (2nd Row) and was successful in being selected in the starting XV against the RAF.
The RN Women now looks forward to a successful 2011/12 season.
