The Royal Navy Rugby Union Value the Volunteer award recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to rugby within the Union or one of its Clubs.  Volunteers remain key to the delivery of rugby union within the RNRU;  the Value the Volunteer award allows the Union to formally show appreciation for the efforts of some of these people.

At the AGM on 14th November, four individuals were presented with a Value the Volunteer award by the RNRU President, VAdm Ben Key CBE.

WO Paul “George” Hillan - for his contribution to Navy Rugby over 27 years in both the Representative and Community areas.

CPO(SEA) Phillip White – in recognition for his work with both HMS Collingwood and HMNB Portsmouth teams and more recently as U23 Team Manager.

POPT Kern – for his contribution to Western Region rugby and grass roots development in the South West.

POAET Guy Pallett – for his excellent work with the RNRU 7s organisation, the Mariners and the communications team.

2 further awards were announced and will be presented at a later date:

Lt Sean Hammond – for his contribution to rugby at BRNC and the Western Region.

Kieran and Chloe Leach – for their dedication and outstanding commitment to Devonport Service RFC.

Nominations for the Value the Volunteer award can be raised at any point during the year.  All that is required is a short citation (approx. 250 words) that should be sent to the Volunteers Manager – Lt Cdr Kirsty Marlor (Kirsty.marlor589@mod.gov.uk).
