The afternoon of Friday 29 November saw an outstanding result for Navy Rugby as three personnel won awards at the annual RN sports award ceremony, held in the wardroom at HMS Nelson.
For the first time ever the RNRU had 3 nominations; CPOET(AE) Dave Pascoe for Sportsman of the Year, AB(S) Tom Davies for Young Sportsman of the Year and WO2 Taff Wilcock for Official of the Year. Unfortunately, due to Disaster Relief operations in the Philippines, onboard HMS ILLUSTRIOUS, AB Davies was unable to attend personally and WO2 Taff Wilcock was otherwise engaged as the RN U23 Team Manager at RAF Halton for the final U23 Inter Services. Luckily, the RNRU were able to support with ...
The Royal Navy Rugby Union Referees Society provided the three match officials for the Army’s home U23 XV Inter Service match against the Royal Air Force. Refereeing was Steve Woolley who continues to make good progress through the refereeing ranks. Steve was supported by Dave Prentice and Jamie Edwards who have now fully recovered from their charity bike ride, from Flanders Field to Brickfields, where they raised £2500 for the Royal British Legion and the RNRMC.
Steve ended last season at the same Aldershot ground, where he was an assistant referee for the Army v RAF Senior XV match and duly earned his Referee Colours. Friday’s conditions were...
The Royal Navy Women will be meeting for the first time this season to play Paignton on 1 Dec 13 (KO 1400). The match will be the culmination of a training weekend held at Lympstone; the weekend will give Head Coach, Lt Dominic “Bali” Salisbury (INM) the opportunity to see how the Ladies have progressed since the Inter Services. New Vice Captain, LAC Emily Park (HMS Collingwood) has said that “ I am very excited about the season ahead with the squad. I will be facing new challenges personally as VC and I am looking forward to meeting new opposition such as the Fire Service. We are already working harder than ever before to get ourselves into a condition from which we...

To do so would miss one of the key points of the U23s, and that is the development opportunities that are provided for players with Senior XV aspirations. The Royal Navy side has one last opportunity to demonstrate that the key lessons from their home game against the Army have been learnt; composure and continuity.
RAF Halton is never an easy place to visit. The RAF U23 XV will be smarting from their comprehensive 39-3 defeat at Aldershot and looking ...
