In their first outing as the 'Navy Sharks' the RN 7's side certainly had added bite to their inaugural performance in the 2006 Dubai Overseas Invitational Competition. Against what was perceived to be the strongest opposition in their Pool they cruised past the Varsity Blues to record a 40:0 win. The opening try was scored by Rob Lloyd after 2 minutes making a sharp break for the line following a penalty which he converted (7:0). Following their convincing win over the Varsity Blues a step up in play was required to keep the Navy Sharks results intact. From the start Alec 1 put the Sharks under intense pressure which finally lead to a try which was converted after 3 minutes (0:7). From the off it was evident by the size and physicality of Clyde & Co that they wanted to take contact and bash up the middle of the Sharks defence. The RNRU 7's team now rebranded as the "Navy Sharks" return to the World Famous Dubai Rugby 7's on 30 Nov - 02 Dec to defend the International Overseas Visitors Trophy which they won last year. A good crowd turned out to see the RN U23s take on Hampshire at Burnaby Road on a sunny autumn afternoon. The RN were missing a number of key players through both injury and deployment but were looking to field a side that contained players who would be in the Inter-Services Squad come the end of the month. The RN were quick to establish early pressure with some good drives into the heart of the Hampshire defence.
