As a new year starts, the Royal Navy Rugby Union is delighted to announce the election of its most recent life member. The Executive Committee, led by Chairman, Captain Andy Kellett, wholeheartedly supported the nomination of Chris Roberts, former Director of Rugby, to join the select group of RNRU life members.
It doesn’t seem that long ago that we wrote an article about Chris, as he stood down from his role as Director of Rugby, and retired from the Royal Navy after nearly 35 years exemplary service. Throughout his entire career, Navy Rugby featured very heavily in his extracurricular activities, and as he put his playing days behind him, the best years of involvem...
None of us will ever forget 2020 and most will be very glad it is nearly over. I am acutely aware that CV19 has had devastating effects on many people and their families that far out way any effects on sport and rugby. With what has become a tradition, I wanted my pre-Christmas message to just summaries where we are and take a positive look forward to the coming months from an RNRU perspective.
March seems an awful long time ago and the Representative season was moving through the gears. The U23s had successfully retained the IS championship (4 th championship in 5 years), we had had a successful Inverdale Trophy competition and we were heading towards another Inter Servi...
It is with regret that the Army and Royal Navy Rugby Unions, in consultation with the RFU, have decided to cancel the 2021 Army v Navy Inter Service Match at Twickenham.
This decision has been taken due to the continued uncertainty surrounding the delivery of sporting events with spectators because of the pandemic, which is likely to remain an issue for, at least, the first half of 2021.
The RFU has been very understanding of the need for our Unions to cancel the Twickenham fixture, in what is, and continues to be, a very challenging period of time in which to organise sporting events.
All three Service Rugby Unions are committed to playing a 2021...

It is charged with the management, administration and development of the game of Rugby Union within the RN, in accordance with Service regulations and traditions, as well as in compliance with the requirements of the RFU and regulatory framework for charities.
Our Vision is: To be fun, relevant and successful, inspiring players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators to enjoy rugby at ...
In the third and final article, I reflect on the U23XV’s 2015-19 period, where the defining factor has been the performance of the players around it’s beacons of talent, the quality of the preparation, the organisational structure and an understanding that more often than not Royal Navy rugby success has come from when the team have looked within, not over their shoulder.
Where do you go from the high of the 2017 Inter Service win? I am sure it was a question that the newly promoted head coach, John Court asked himself more than once. The answer was a poor campaign that deservedly saw the Army reinstated as champions. What should have been a convincing wi...
