The Royal Navy Rugby Union is pleased to announce the appointment of Capt A J Willis RN in the position of Northern Region Chairman. Capt Willis joined the Royal Navy in January 1983 and joined HM Naval Base Clyde as Captain of the Base and Captain HMS NEPTUNE in May 2013. Capt Willis has been involved in Rugby Union from an early age. He has played at local club level in both the UK and Australia as well as being a qualified coach and referee involved in UK South East Area Club Youth rugby. On Wed 19 Feb at the Rectory (Kick Off 1900), the RN(W) will be facing Plymouth Albion Ladies. This match has always been a close and challenging fixture and the RN(W) are looking forward to meeting these rivals again. This match will be the final preparation for the RN(W) before they fly to Toulon to play the French Navy in March. RN(W) Head Coach, Lt Dominic “Bali” Salisbury (INM) said that the RN(W) has been blessed this season with a nice healthy squad and new talented players coming through. They say that time is a great healer but when the Navy team gather together in the changing room for the first match of the season against Oxford University the anticipation of the season ahead will not be able to fully erase the bitter feeling that a Twickenham defeat leaves. On a very blustery day in Keyham the Naval base hosted 42 CDO RM for their second meeting in the WRL. On the last encounter before Christmas Devonport fielded an understrength team with the Royals walking away with a 44-0 win. It looked like a similar game was about to take place with Devonport struggling for 15 players before the game. After a few late arrivals the game was underway with 42 very quickly realising this game was not going to be a repeat of the previous fixture.
