Two soft tries conceded in the first half ultimately decided the game in Havant’s favour but for the Mariners their play during the second half provided a template for the future. Though they only managed one try in a sustained period of pressure they proved that they have some serious firepower in a back line that looks dangerous with ball in hand.
Both sides took a while to settle in to the game. Unforced errors or over eagerness at the tackle led to a number of scrums and penalties with the game struggling to get out of second gear. In the opening quarter there was one excellent break from flanker Will Jerrold but it came to nothing when his final off load drifted forward. Wh...
With the loss to Richmond Vikings and the cancelled fixture against Oxford University suddenly the Royal Navy’s last outing in February takes on a greater importance. Once more the coaching staff have rung the changes before they will need to make the important decisions as they ramp up their Inter Service preparations. Against Worthing Raiders, Ben Priddey will lead a side that once more has a core of experience running through it but will also feature a couple of players looking to make the cut for the mid March Malta training camp.
An all changed front row sees Josh Terry move across to the loose head side to accommodate John Court at tight head prop with former C...
When the final whistle blew at the Stoop on Sunday, England Women had put behind them the disappointment of their defeat to Wales the week before. The victory over Italy allowed them to say farewell to their long serving Team Manager, Janette Shaw, with a win. It also meant that as Sunday’s celebrations drew to a close the Team Manager baton was finally handed over to the Royal Navy’s Helen Richardson. Helen’s first game in charge will be over in Ireland where England will face a team looking to avenge their 40-7 semi-final defeat in the 2014 World Cup. For England, and Helen, it will be another step forward as the World Champions look to re-buil...
Monmouth Kicked Off against a determined Sutherland side who utilised their big runners to gain territory early on in the match. Monmouth’s defence held on and remained patient and continued to absorb the continued attacks from Sutherland.
After 10 mins Monmouth’s patience paid off and following a strong scrum and some quick ball, LLogs Sam Romang exploited a gap from fly half with a fantastic run resulting in a try, converted by SLT Wheatley.
Sutherland continued to use their brute force to eventually overwhelme a dedicated defence to score and equalise.
The second quarter was to and fro with handling errors from both teams. Hard tackles were made by PO Speedy Carr ...
