Bahrain may seem a long way to go to play a French team but for the Marines and Sailors of HMS BULWARK it proved a worthwhile journey with the added incentive of a Sky Sports team filming an item on Navy Rugby in the RNRU's centenary year. Navy Society member, Steve Harland, is finishing the season with two prestigious appointments. First the Combined Services invited him to referee the show piece match of the Navy's Centenary season on the 4 April when the Navy 1st XV take on the Barbarians at Plymouth and then the RFU invited him to referee the Powergen Vase Final at Twickenham. Premier league rugby union club, London Irish have been at Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth this week on a Leadership and Team Building Training Camp aimed at improving leadership skills on the pitch. London Irish have a host of International Rugby stars from England, Ireland, South Africa and Argentina. Players including Mike Catt, Kieron Dawson, Faan Rautenbach, Bob Casey and Juan Leguizamon and their team mates are being put through their paces at the Royal Navy's premier school for leadership and officer training.
