The Navy Sharks made their first appearance this season at the West Country 7s at Keynsham RFC. They were entered in the Men's Open and the draw put them in the same group as the RAF ‘Spitfires.'
Their first match was against ‘Classroom Crusaders' and they had a convincing win by 50 points to 0. The Sharks were straight into the game from the kick off, with LPT Gareth Cadmore (HMS Raleigh) making the first break, followed by good inter-play that resulted in the first try scored by AET Gareth Jones (RNAS Yeovilton). Greg Barden, RN Vice Captain, took the field in Edinburgh as part of the England 7s team and featured in the semi-final of the Cup competition. However, England eventually lost out to Samoa with a drop goal on the buzzer of extra time.

The RNRU would like to congratulate Billy MacLeod and his team of walkers who completed "The Longest Try" on 30 May. The team walked 1200 miles from John O'Groats to Land's End in 27 days to raise money for Veterans' International Aid, a charity set up to help those who have served on operations and have suffered the effects of PTSD or who find it hard to adjust to civilian life.
