Barbarians V New Zealand – Twickenham Stadium - 4th November 2017
Back in 2009 the Barbarian team had a phenomenal line up of world class players; Matt Giteau, Victor Matfield, George Smith, Jamie Roberts, Leigh Halfpenny and Joe Rokocoko with the Springbok flyer Bryan Habana scoring a hat-trick of tries on the day clinching an emphatic 25-18 win. And it was the first time the Baa-Baas had beaten the All Blacks since 1973 and “That Try” by Gareth Edwards.
This November, the New Zealand Rugby Union is celebrating its 125th Anniversary with a much anticipated Killik Cup re-match against the Barbarians and you too can be there.

On a sunny evening in the United States Marine Corps football stadium in Quantico the Royal Navy Rugby Union Senior XV prepared for their final game of the USA tour. They stepped out on to the pitch in front of a crowd who were either there for the love of the sport or there to try to understand the rules and ask why the players don’t wear any pads! Colours were flying, Honour Guards were present and the USMC band was playing. This was only the second time the US Marine Corps have played the Royal Navy and they were defiantly “up for it”, they had flown players in from all over the globe, including Japan, to rise to the challenge. As in the previous t...
On a day more suited to sunbathing than playing rugby, the Royal Navy Senior XV played their second fixture of the tour against the Potomac Exiles, a team that play in the top tier of USA rugby. As with the first match of the tour, the fixture was played in the excellent facilities of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. However the crowd was not quite as big even though Royal Navy Rugby Union Executive Committee members Alan Church and Roger Readwin did corral all known Brits in the vicinity! The game kicked off under the blaze of the midday sun, with the tourists taking a quick lead after 2 minutes with a try from Sam Matavesi, which was converted by Greg Loydall who pl...
On a blisteringly hot afternoon in Annapolis with over 80% humidity the Royal Navy Rugby Union Senior XV kicked off the first game of their USA tour against the United States Naval Academy team. From the immediate start it was all systems go for the Royal Navy side who scored throughout, Jarrad Hayler with a charge-down try in the first 30 seconds. The touring side continued to dominate scoring another brace of tries in the next 15 minutes, firstly by Tom Notman and then with Dave Fairbrother; all the tries were converted by Nathan Huntley. However it was not all one way traffic as for the next quarter of an hour the home side frustrated the tourists who struggled to stick to their game ...
The Royal Navy Rugby Union Senior XV are on a short tour of the eastern seaboard of the United States. The tour, between 9 to 23 Sep 17 will see them participate in three fixtures against the United States Naval Academy (USNA), the Potomac Exiles and United States Marine Corps (USMC). With an aim of developing and preparing the Senior XV squad and management team for the Inter-Services Championship 2018, as well as investigating and developing a new batch of players, the tour looks to raise the profile of Service Rugby and to reinforce the strong partnerships between our respective Navies and Marine Corps as we move forward in the realms of Carrier Strike and Littoral Manoeuvre.
