The finals of the Royal Marines' Argyll Bowl competition took place today, Thu 16 Sep. The Plate final was held at CTCRM and saw 42 Cdo RM overwhelm 24 Cdo Engr Regt to win convincingly by 61 points to nil.
In the Cup Final held at Exeter Chiefs' ground at Sandy Park, 1 RIFLES won by a narrow margin, beating Cdo Log Regt RM by 5 points to nil.
Although an Army unit, 1 RIFLES is an integral part of 3 Cdo Bde and deployed on HERRICK 9 as the Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (OMLT), mentoring the Afghan National Army in Helmand. All units that belong to 3 Cdo Bde are eligible to take part in the Argyll Bowl and 1 RIFLES reached the final last year, drawing against 42 Cdo RM.

Lt Sam Cuff (RNAS Culdrose) has been invited to join the coaching team for Combined Services Women. This will include the CS(W)'s training game against OA Saints on 3 Nov and the Remembrance fixture at Aldershot against the British Police on 9 Nov.
Sam is one of the RN's up and coming young coaches; he has already tasted success by coaching the RN Women to a well-deserved victory against the RAF in April.
POAET Owen Salmon (RNAS Yeovilton) has become the latest RNRU coach to pass the RFU Level 3 coaching award, which makes him one of the most qualified coaches in the Royal Navy. He joins the ranks of the Navy's other L3 coaches - Maj Steve Melbourne RM, CPO Si Burns, WO1 Billy May and Navy Director of Rugby, Lt Cdr Geraint Ashton Jones. Although Owen was a top player who was capped by the Royal Navy against the Army in 2002 and again in 2003, many believe that his lasting contribution will be as a coach. This is a simple acknowledgement of the impact that Owen has already made in his coaching journey and the potential that many see in him for the future.
