Help for Heroes Exceed Expectations

Courtesy of RFU Press Office Summertime ended in a blaze of glory at Twickenham today as the 52,254-strong crowd, which included HRH Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, packed into the world famous ground to watch the Help For Heroes side take on an International Select XV. Even before the action started, event organiser Simon Halliday announced that the event had been a success, exceeding the £1m target and raising £1.1m to go directly towards the rehabilitation the British troops seriously wounded on active duty in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq. This was the case for Ian Seaton and Dave Philpot at last season’s RN/RAF Inter Service matches held at Burnaby Road. During a break in the action our Chairman, Stew Kilby, commented fellow Navy referee Dickie Underwood intended to take three teams from ARK ROYAL to Kiel Week 7’s on Sat 21 Jun 08 offering the opportunity for a couple of Navy Referees to officiate at the tournament. Help For Heroes Teams Announced

Lawrence Dallaglio and Scott Gibbs will lead two all star casts as some of rugby’s biggest names are reunited at Twickenham this Saturday. They are among 20 international players from six countries who will join services rugby’s top brass to raise £1m for the Help for Heroes fund for the care and rehabilitation of injured British service personnel who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
