January is not just the start of a new year but a time that the elder statesmen of Royal Navy playing cadre dust off their boots.
The Royal Navy Mariners (over 35s) kicked off their season against HMS Queen Elizabeth today in Portsmouth. The fleet flagship have just come back from a long deployment where unfortunately minimal rugby was played but they still proved to tricky opposition.
However the Mariners used some of their old wily tricks at their disposal through their many years of play to gain a comfortable victory, finishing the game 45-5 ahead.
Like the other representative sides their season culminates against the Army in April.
The Royal Navy Mariners are still recruiting new players!
