RN Women Start Their Season at Lympstone
The RN Women have started their 2014/15 season with a training weekend at CTCRM Lympstone. It was the first opportunity for Head Coach, Lt Dominic “Bali” Salisbury and his new look coaching team of POMA Chris Jones, LS Darren Stedman and Lt Paula Bennett-Smith to look at the squad for the season ahead. The squad was missing several established players due to deployments, however, Club Captain POET(WE) Sarah Jenkins still managed to make an appearance as day 13 of the RN Facebook page advent calendar! The RN Women welcomed 2 new players to the squad, Mid Isobel Rawlinson and Mid Charlotte Myrans, both currently studying at University. In frosty conditions, the players spent 3 days being put through their paces in order to lay the foundations of RN(W) rugby for this season’s Inter Services competition. The players were drilled in defensive skills, ball handling and attacking systems, all of which will be put into practice at the next game. The team also put together their code of conduct, which will be available to players soon.
The next RN(W) fixture is against the Fire Service at Imber Court, London on 21 Jan 14. The Head Coach announced that NNS Alice Kightley (DMS) and Lt Lizzie Grant (NCHQ) will act as Captain and Vice Captain for that game.
