Coach Bruno Has High Hopes For Sultan's Season

HMS Sultan's rugby coach, WO2 'Bruno' Brunning has high hopes for the coming season. "Pre season work has gone really well, with regular good turn outs at training. We have a core of experience in the side and some very promising youngsters. The key will be to keep the enthusiasm levels high and how we manage with the disruption caused by players coming and going on draft. At the moment I am more optimistic than I have been for a while and we have been further boosted by a couple of players coming from Navy Rugby's Go Play Rugby initiative." Top Venue for Argyle Bowl Final

This season's Argyle Bowl final will be held at Exeter RFC's Sandy Park ground on Thursday 20 September. Kick off is 19:30 Sandy Park is probably one of the best rugby venues outside of the Premiership and will provide the perfect backdrop for what is always a keenly contested match between the finalists of the Royal Marine's premier rugby tournament. Corps rugby is currently in a very healthy state with a large number of the current RN Senior squad members wearing the Green Beret. That coupled with a brief respite from being deployed on operations should ensure that this prestigious tournament is one of the best for many years.

The Royal Navy Rugby Union Referee's Society's annual seminar will be held at HMS TEMERAIRE on Wednesday 19 September. This year's theme is ensuring that referees 'Communicate the Right Message'. Again the Society has put together a well balanced development day supported some top speakers. Mikel Mellick, the Consultant Psychologist to the RFU National Panel and Elite Match Officials, returns to give a presentation on a Psychologist's View of Rugby Referee's Body Language and What He Gives Away (How to Hide Your Emotions). It only seems like yesterday that we were again coming second to the Army in what was a great game for the neutral, but not so clever for those of us more intimately involved. As always at this time of the year, things are hectic with preparations for the forthcoming campaign.
